Mega Fail

Killed my PC last night when we accidentally sent 24 volts through the USB port.  Gonna need to get a new PC (that one was old anyway) and a USB port surge protector.

Amplifier PCB Layout

Here is my first attempt at PCB layout using Pad2Pad’s layout software.  It doesn’t look half bad if I say so myself but then we’ll see when it come back whether it works or not.

Amp build

Here are some photos of the new amplifier being built. I’m trying to keep it clean, but soldering isn’t my strong suit.

Amp take two

After lots of reading, some help from reddit, and a ton of experimentation, I think I have something close to a working amp design. Still needs work but it works in simulation beginning to end and I understand all of it’s operation.  Here’s the output:

Simulation Blues

I am having a very love/ hate thing going with simulation of electronic circuits right now.  I have been using  Tina as a low cost way to learn and test ideas for the amplifier.  Originally, I started out using  5spice for this but the software lacks much polish and I think Tina Basic is worth the $89 you […]

The Output Stage

“Thus conscience does make cowards of us all; And thus the native hue of resolution Is sicklied o’er with the pale cast of thought, And enterprises of great pith and moment With this regard their currents turn awry, And lose the name of action” The basic formula for making a strong electromagnet is simple.  Take […]
